Monday was a good day. The first weekday of the half term holiday, the sun was out and lots of people had decided to visit us at Knowsley Safari Park. There was also a planned visit from Little Stars, this was a group of families all with children recovering from cancer and Cancer Reasearch UK and the England Footballers Foundation helped to plan a fantastic day out for them.
The families arrived in the morning and the children thought they were just having a trip to the safari park but while they were having some refreshments in the parks Karamoja restaurant they were surprised by England footballers Steven Gerrard and Stuart Downing.
The children were all football fans and all supported Liverpool Football Club(phew) and were really excited to meet their football heroes. Then for the next treat, the children and their heroes went to feed our giraffe and have photographs taken.
Oliver and Rigsby our two male giraffewere on best behaviour and really played up for the cameras to make some great photos and allow the children to get really close to them. Steven Gerrard wasn’t too keen at first but I think by the end of the session we had turned him into a giraffe fan.
Stuart Downing may have got a little closer than he expected too.
